Smart murals in the city

Following the success of Smart Murals in the City, the Gallery is bringing more of its collection to life through augmented reality. You can see a number of paintings animated and find out more about the artist and artworks using your smartphone or tablet by downloading the free musar app.

If you visit Sir Edward Burne Jones’ Perseus Series in the Baring Room, you will be able to see a number of the paintings brought to life, as well as listening to audios introducing the legend of Perseus and Sir Edward Burne Jones. You can download the app and the Gallery’s content before you visit, or using the Gallery’s wifi when you arrive. Once you are here, just open the app, select the artwork you want to view on your device and point it at the original painting.

Keep checking the website to find out which other artworks are being animated in the Gallery.

The original smART mural, Dan Perfect’s DeerDog, 2004 can still be be found in the main hall at the Gallery.

Keep checking the website to find out which other paintings are being animated in the Gallery.

Smart Murals partners: Southampton Solent University, Southampton City Art Gallery, Enova, Winchester School of Art, South East Museum Development Programme.

This project is funded by Arts Council England.
