COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Announcement from Cllr Kaur, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Homes:

“During this time, it is important people have access to the essentials, but also take care of their physical and mental health. For many, Culture plays a valuable role in this and is an important part of people’s daily lives. The cultural sector in Southampton are rising to the challenge, and Southampton City Council’s much loved libraries, museums, gallery are offering a range of #CultureinQuarantine activities that local individuals and families can enjoy from their homes during these difficult times. From children’s story rhyme times, boredom busters, to virtual access to our accredited collections; there’s lots to get involved in, enjoy and bring us together.”

#CultureinQuarantine – sharing Culture whilst being apart

To all our amazing audiences, visitors, volunteers and supporters.

There is no doubt that Coronavirus is having a huge impact on how we live our daily lives.

Like other venues across Southampton, the Council’s libraries, museums, gallery and archive are temporarily closed and must remain so until government advice makes it clear that it is safe to re-open and we can welcome you back.

But the show must go on and we are working hard to develop new ways of sharing and engaging with you via our online platforms. From ‘Staying in Touch’ and ‘Home Learning’, to ‘Boredom Busters’, ‘Familiar Faces’ and ‘Storytelling’ look out for new content on our website and social media channels over the coming weeks.

These are unchartered waters for us all and, as always, we welcome your ideas, contributions and feedback.

We’d also love to find out what cultural activities you are doing at home – perhaps you are drawing, making, baking, creating or learning something new? Share this with us via #Southampton #CultureinQuarantine and #Stayhomelibraries. Alternatively email us at museums@southampton.gov.uk

In the meantime, if you have booked tickets for workshops or talks over the coming weeks please do visit our website for updates. If the event is cancelled, one of our team will be in touch with you before the event is due to take place.

This is a challenging time and we are committed to doing our utmost to support Southampton and its communities. Remember stay at home, stay safe and stay well!
