Balance Torre Dell’ Arsenale, Venice, Italy, 2019

Photograph

This photograph is part of a larger body of work in progress looking at the current and historic connections between Southampton and Venice. It is one of a series of photographs taken in both locations, depicting a 700 meter hand-spun ball of red wool representing the 700 year link between the two cities which was established via the wool trade. Here the ball of wool is depicted balanced on a structure in the Torre Dell’ Arsenale, one part of a vast complex of former shipyards and armouries, now mainly used for the Venice Biennale exhibitions
